Effective Tips For A Math Summer Camp

You may not be a fan of math but you will likely enjoy a math summer camp. I have never come across anyone who hates summer camps but I know a lot of people who dislike math! However, your love for summer camps can make you start loving math and even perform better in your upcoming exams.

Summer camps are different from regular schools. There are different programs for students who want to make up their classes and boost their knowledge. The purpose of summer programs may differ. However, one thing that is real is that it is summer. If you want a successful program then you should always keep this in mind. Since it is summertime, there are a lot of things that are more relaxing than school days. It is, therefore, essential to know some tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your summer camps.

Incorporating fun activities

If your summer program has an emphasis on make-up or remediation that does not mean it has to be boring or drudgery. Disengaged students do not need more reasons to dislike school or subjects. Summer programs can be a great chance for students to reengage with their education.

There could be a lot of pressure to make up a lot of objectives or standards with students but do not forget to have fun. Adding some useful activities can encourage active participation. Summer educational camps are meant to educate students in a fun way away from the boring classroom style.

Badges

We all love badges and if you don’t, it means you are unique. Your technology integration specialists can use them with teachers to encourage students to try out tech tools. They can give you a badge when you share how you used a new tech school tool with students. This can be a huge motivator. It is also a good physical representation of things you are learning about.

Using badges is a great idea for summer camps. Get started by making a list of goals that you would like your students to accomplish during summer camps and make some stickers that your students can learn. When they meet their goals, whether it is completing a task or showing mastery, they can show off their new badge. It is an excellent way for your teachers and students to see the types of progress students are making.

Reflect on learning

Students need to reflect on what they are learning. In a place like a summer camp, we can easily forget to build in these great opportunities for reflection. It helps a lot to have at least one time set aside for children to reflect on their progress and learning. They can reflect in an exit ticket and journal.

Math apps

Students may not be allowed to carry their phone in a classroom but in a math summer camp, students can be allowed to use phones and iPads and use math apps to practice math.
