Carlson, an entrepreneur from Seattle was sketching on a napkin which depicted a huge balloon that was that was attached to the ground. (The gentle slope of the bottom) and the architect John Graham drew a concept for a flying saucer. (That is where you will find the observatory deck and restaurant).
Victor Steinbrueck designed the hourglass-shaped profile of the tower by Victor Steinbrueck. The Space Needle is built to withstand winds that exceed 200 mph or 325 km/h. This is twice the speed in the building code of 1962. The Space Needle only sways 1 inch (25mm) per 10 miles per hour (16km/h).
