'I've been dropped to back-up', unhappy Tottenham MF finally declares his departure

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, once Tottenham Hotspur's starting midfielder but recently relegated to a backup role, is leaving Spurs this summer.

According to British outlet Football Insider, the midfielder is unhappy with his current situation and is looking to leave the club.

The publication said, "Tottenham ace Hojbjerg is unhappy. He wants to part ways with Spurs, according to our sources," the publication reported. Lack of playing time is said to be the reason.

The outlet previously reported in March that "Spurs are planning to listen to incoming offers for Hojbjerg" and that "both Spurs and Hojbjerg are willing to part ways this summer."

Yves Bissouma, Pape Mattharsar, and Rodrigo Bentancur are currently the core of Spurs' midfield. Hojbjerg also has a high number of appearances (31 in the league), but not nearly as many minutes (1085). He has started just six games.

"In February, Hojbjerg said he didn't think he would be at the club next season, and Tottenham tried to sell him last summer and again in January, but he wanted a permanent move rather than a loan," the outlet said.

Last summer, Hojbjerg was very close to joining Fulham. At the time, Fulham were in the process of selling Juan Palinha to Bayern Munich and wanted Hojbjerg as his replacement.

Tottenham were set to receive £25 million for the transfer. However, Palinha's move dramatically fell through on transfer deadline day, and so did Hojbjerg's.

In addition to Fulham, Atletico Madrid (Spain) and 토토사이트 Galatasaray (Turkey) were also interested in the player at the time. However, after failing to make a move in the summer, Hojbjerg was pushed out of Ange Postecoglou's system.

He lost his place as Postecoglou prioritized Sarr, Bissouma, and Bentancur in the middle of the park, as they have the ability to get forward and pass.

In January, Juventus (Italy) made an approach for Hojbjerg.

"He wants to leave Tottenham in January in order to get more playing time in the second half of the season and prepare for the upcoming European Championships in the summer," explained German Sky Sports journalist Florian Platenberg.

"Hojbjerg is seeking a permanent transfer or a loan with a buy-out clause to leave Tottenham, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not open to a loan deal with an option to buy," the report said.

"Juventus are still interested in Hojbjerg," the report added, "and after the suspensions of Paul Pogba and Nicolo Pazzolli, coach Massimiliano Allegri may try to make a move to add more options to the Juventus midfield."

"Hojbjerg's need for more playing time has attracted interest from many of Europe's top teams, but Tottenham will demand a significant fee for the player, who has 18 months left on his contract, which could prove problematic for a club strapped for cash or struggling with Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues," explained Football London.
