Honda Sensing Technology and the 2018 Lineup

Over the years, developers in the automotive industry have worked tirelessly to bring consumers the best products on the market. These products are always answers to previous problems that aim to drastically improve the consumer’s experience in any given vehicle. That being said, in 2018, Honda is addressing safety and accessibility with the inclusion of Honda Sensing in their models. Honda Sensing is Honda’s advanced line of technologies that are installed in Honda’s newer models to better assist drivers when they’re on the road.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW): This feature alerts drivers when the vehicle is beginning to unexpectedly drift out of its lane. When the car begins to drift, the alerts will flash and sound to attract your attention.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS): The Lane Keeping Assist System is designed to keep the car in the middle of the lane. If a car strays from the center of the lane without signaling, the LKAS will adjust your steering to keep you centered.

Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM): This system is supposed to keep your car from going off-road. If it detects the car approaching the side of the road without a turn signal, the system will alert the driver with rapid vibrations on the steering wheel. Additionally, RDM can also give some steering suggestions to keep the vehicle on the road and even apply braking to prevent any road departures.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Unlike your traditional cruise control feature, ACC helps the driver maintain a set following interval, eliminating the need to constantly cancel and adjust the cruise control’s set speed. There are even a few Honda models that have an ACC system with Low Speed Follow, which makes driving in light traffic easier and more convenient.

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS): When this system detects an incoming collision that is unavoidable, it applies braking to try to slow the car.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW): With the Collision Mitigation Braking System, FCW uses a camera at the top of the front windshield in order to detect other vehicles in front of you. If the FCW detects a possible collision, it will alert you and, if the warnings are ignored, the CMBS will access the brakes and slow your vehicle.

Honda LaneWatch: With this technology, any time you signal right, the camera installed in the side view mirror on the passenger side will activate and stream the live footage on your Display Audio Touch Screen.

Blind Spot Information System: If your turn signal is on and there is another car in your blind spot in the next lane over, you will be alerted by a beeping noise and a blinking indicator until the area is clear or the turn signal is deactivated.

Cross Traffic Monitor: When the car is in reverse and the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera is on, approaching vehicles that are detected by Honda Sensing will trigger an alert that will vanish once the area is clear.

Auto High-Beam Headlights: If you are driving at night at speeds higher than 25mph, or 40 km/h, and your low-beam lights are on with the switch set to AUTO, Honda Sensing will automatically switch your headlights between low and high beams depending on your surroundings.
