Management Of Housing Society Elections By The Voting App

In every five years, the members of the housing society have the right to elect the management committee. This helps in framing the opinions among the members regarding various issues. This must be practiced within a stipulated time period as that would help and if any society avoids and refuses to do so then a legal complaint could be launched against it. Though the majority of the time the elections are avoided because of the hassle of the election process so if the entire process is done through housing societies app then it could simply the entire process.

Overview of housing society elections

The procedure to elect the managing committee is according to the cooperative societies act. This procedure has to be followed accurately for appointing the members of the committee. Two months before the end of the term of the existing committee a notice is put forward which mentions that the term of the existing committee is going to end. The committee has to invite members to contest the next election. All these processes could be simplified if the voting is done through the app. The mechanism of the app is such that it will automatically notify about the election after a stipulated time.

A list of members who are eligible to contest elections is prepared and then the notice is put on the notice board 60 days prior to the election. After that, a returning officer is appointed by the managing committee under whose guidance the whole process take place. After compiling the complete election program, it is submitted to the registrar and a copy is put up on the notice board. The returning officer must not be someone who is contesting election or supporting any particular candidate. In case there is difficulty in appointing returning officer by the committee then the same right goes to the registering officer. There would not be need of appointing a returning officer if the entire process is conducted using an app.

How are the disputes handled?

In case of any dispute with another member of the society, or if there is grievance over certain matters practiced by the society then a complaint could be lodged with the managing committee. Once the complaint is received by the committee they look over the issue and then respond within 15 days of receiving any complaint. In case the committee doesn’t respond back within the stipulated time then again, the complaint could be lodged in the deputy registrar office. It is the organization which regulates all the matters of the housing societies, including a transfer of shares, maintenance of records, improper use of funds and unfair electoral practices. The existing committee could be dissolved as soon as it is found that it is holding the position without any proper elections and after that, an administrative officer is appointed who is responsible to handle the affairs of the society till fresh elections are conducted. Housing society elections could be genuine only when they are conducted through the voting app launched by right2vote.
