Unfortunately, after updating your iPhone to the latest version of iOS, you may see that the Favorites widget cannot be loaded.
1. Editing Favorite Contacts on iPhone
Due to a problem with contact information on the iPhone, the Favorites widget may fail to load. This is ultimately due to an iOS issue that Apple needs to fix in a future update. However, you may be able to find a solution by searching for a specific contact.
Delete all favorite contacts Start by deleting all favorites and see if the widget works. To do this, open the Phone app and tap Favorites in the bottom left. Swipe left on each contact and tap Delete. Contacts are never deleted from your iPhone. This will remove them from your Favorites group.
Show the favorites widget again after deleting all contacts. If it works, you should see "no favorites" instead of "unable to download".
Contacts can now be added to Favorites again. To do this, view each contact in the Phone app and tap Add to Favorites at the bottom of the screen.
After adding each contact, check the Favorites widget to see which contacts have stopped working again.
Changing Specific Contact Information
If a particular contact no longer works in the Favorites widget, you may need to change the contact information. Take a screenshot or write down the person's information beforehand so you don't accidentally lose anything.
Click Edit in the upper right corner to remove all contacts, including profile pictures. As you edit your data, check the Favorites widget a few times to see why it works again.
If the Favorites widget still does not load, try deleting this contact permanently. Then build from scratch.
Try reducing the number of contacts in your Favorites
Some users have noticed that adding more than 3 of their contacts to their Favorites causes widget issues. The problem may not have been the contact you wanted to change. Maybe too many favorites.
Of course, that doesn't matter. This is due to an iOS bug that Apple will likely fix in a future update. But for now, you can narrow it down to two or three favorites and see if they improve your device.
2. Erase and Reinstall iOS on Your iPhone
If you're reading this, Apple may have already fixed this issue with an iOS update. If the Favorites widget still does not load on your iPhone, there may be a problem specific to your device. This can happen if iOS system files are corrupted or missing. Upgrading to a new version of iOS doesn't overwrite the missing files because they don't need to be changed. So I still have the same issue after the update.
The only thing you can do in this situation is to completely erase your iPhone and reinstall iOS on your computer.
Don't forget to make a new backup of your iPhone first. Otherwise, all personal data will be lost.
After creating a backup, follow the steps below to restore your iPhone in recovery mode. Downloading and installing iOS may take some time, but after that, you should have no software issues.
After the reinstallation is complete, set up your iPhone and follow the on-screen instructions to restore your backup.
