Applying the conformal protective layer in 3 ways

The coating process usually consists of spraying, dipping or pouring a thin layer of conformal coating on selective parts of the object. The coating is applied in such a way that it does not affect the functionality of connections, controls, sensors and other external signaling devices of the control.

1. Spray / spray ( pcb coating spray )

With spraying or spraying, an even mist of conformal coating is applied to the product. Parts that do not need to be coated are shielded in advance. The technique can be electronic, but also manual. Consumer PCB coating sprays are also available.

Advantage: The layer thickness in case of syringes is relatively thin and homogeneous. This makes the layer almost invisible. Nowadays, with an innovative plasma technique, the coating can be applied to the millimeter.

Disadvantage: High or excellent components negatively affect an even distribution.

2. Dip / dip coating

Are there few parts that should not be coated? Then applying by dip coating is a good option. The electronic components are immersed in a coated bath. When the components come out of the bath, the excess material will drain and the coating will harden slowly.

Advantage: It is fast and can fully coat the electronic components at once.

Disadvantage: This method makes it difficult to shield specific components and the layer thickness is relatively thick.

3. Pouring / Brushing

In the case of lacquer casting, the coating is poured on the electronic control or applied with a brush and excess coating material drips until the coating has hardened. This technique is very similar to dip coating but has a number of differences. The coating has less time / volume for lacquer casting to crawl into all components. In addition, not the entire component is immersed somewhere, but only individual parts or, for example, only the bottom or top. Consumers can buy this variant of conformal coating in small bottles.

Advantage: More control during application than with dip coating, but a thicker layer than with the spray technique. The application is simple and can also be done manually.

Disadvantage: Shielding parts that do not need to be coated requires the necessary expertise.
