History of Android

Android is one of the best operating systems in the world that helps the billions of users who use smart phones and tablets. Android devices make our life easier and each Android version is named as desserts like Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop and Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo and Pie. Android 1.0 (API level 1):

Android 1.0 was the first version of Android, launched on September 23, 2008. Here are some of the features of Android 1.0:

*Google maps to view maps and satellite imaginary and to find the location business and drive through the location using GPS.

Android 1.1 (API level 2):

On February 9, 2009, the Android 1.1 update was released to resolve the bugs in the previous version. Here are some of the features.

*In the Google maps, details and reviews are available when searched by the users for local businesses.

Android 1.5 Cupcake (API level 3):

On April 27, 2009, the Android 1.5 update was released that included several changes.

*Allow third-party virtual keyboards with predictive texts and dictionary for users to find specific words.

*Support to upload videos to YouTube and pictures to Picasa.

 Android 1.6 Donut (API level 4):

On September 15, 2009, the Android 1.6 was released that included several changes.

*Voice and text search enhanced add bookmark history.

Android 2.0 Éclair (API level 5):

On October 26, 2009, the Android 2.0 was released that was based on Linux kernel 2.6.29

For the synchronization of contacts and emails, users could add the multiple contacts to a smartphone

Android 2.0.1 Éclair (API level 6):

On December 3, 2009, the Android 2.0.1 was released with minor API changes as well as bug fixes and framework behavioral changes.

Android 2.1 Éclair (API level 7):

On January 12, 2010, the Android 2.1 was released with modifications to the API and bug fixes

Android 2.2-2.2.3 Froyo (API level 8):

On May 20, 2010, the Android 2.2 was released.

*Installing applications to the external memory and support four-inch 720p screens to see the videos.

 Android 2.3-2.3.2 Gingerbread (API level 9):

On December 6, 2010, the Android 2.3 was released that was based on Linux kernel 2.6.35.

*Update the simple and speedy user interface design and supports multiple camera on a device, including front-facing camera.

Android 2.3.3-2.3.7 Gingerbread (API level 10):

On February 9, 2011, Android 2.3.3–2.3.7 Gingerbread was released.

 *It support for Google Talk voice and video chat.

*Improved network performance and battery efficiency.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb (API level 11):

On February 22, 2011, the Android 3.0 was released.

*Optimized to support tablets with new “holographic” user interface.

                                 

Android 3.1 Honeycomb (API level 12):

*It supports high-performance Wi-Fi connections

Android 3.2-3.2.6 Honeycomb (API level 13):

  • Improved hardware support for a wide range of tablets.
  • Enhanced ability of applications to open files on the SD cards.

Android 4.0-4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich (API level 14):

On October 19, 2011, the Android 4.0 was released.

*Easier to create folders using drag-drop style and direct access to the applications from the lock screen.

Android 4.0.3-4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (API level 15):

*Enhanced graphics, databases and Bluetooth functionality.

Android 4.1-4.1.2 Jelly Bean (API level 16):

On July 9, 2012, the Android 4.0 was released and included some of the following changes.

*Supports tablets with smaller screens to use enlarged version of the interface layout.

Android 4.2-4.2.2 Jelly Bean (API level 17):

Improvements in lock screen, including widget support and option to swipe directly to the camera

Android 4.3-4.3.1 Jelly Bean (API level 18):

*OpenGL support with improvements in game graphics.

Android 4.4-4.4.4 KitKat(API level 19):

On October 31, 2013, the Android 4.4 was released.

*It includes a new framework for UI transition.

Android 4.4W-4.4W.2 KitKat (API level 20):

* Updated UI for Google map navigation and GPS support.

Android 5.0-5.0.2 Lollipop (API level 21):

On November 12, 2014, the Android 4.4 was released.

* Material design with altered UI.

Android 5.1-5.1.1 Lollipop (API level 22):

*Capable to join Wi-Fi networks and access over paired Bluetooth devices.
