College essay grades depend on the quality of your write-up. Course instructors will very likely judge you on the quality of your essays. They usually do not get a fair impression of all the students, as all students do not participate in the class, even if some students participate; they do not shine, because they lack preparation. So, if you want to shine in class, then here are 5 essay writing tips for you to boost your grades:

Tip #1: Get to the Point as Early as Possible

Do not begin your essay with a story that has little to do with your main point, just get to the main point. If you know what your thesis statement is, then you should present it in the first sentence. So, do not bother wasting your time, and get to the point as early as possible.

Tip #2: Do Not Overuse the Phrases, There Is and There Are

If you write expository essays without using the phrases, there is and there are, then your sentences will look more sophisticated. Consider the difference in the following sentences:

“There are many people who want to go to park”.

“Many people want to go to park”.

In the above examples, the first sentence is quite longer, while the second sentence is short and perfect.

Tip #3: Do Not Use Words about Which You Are Unfamiliar With

You must use words only about which you are familiar with. If you use unfamiliar words, then you carry a risk of not explaining the topic perfectly to your readers. Your grade may suffer if you use unfamiliar words in your writing.

Tip #4: Write Shorter Sentences, They Count for Good Write-Ups

The longer your sentences grow, the higher are the chances that you may commit a mistake. So, if your sentence is getting longer and out of control, then you must split the sentence into two. It is a better trick to tackle lengthy stuff of your essay.

Tip #5: Use Active Voice, Evade the Passive Voice

See the sentences below:

“A burger was eaten by the girl”.

“The girl ate a burger”.

You should use the second sentence if you are writing an essay, as active voice counts for good reading, and it is effective.

So, that is all for now. The tips given above are short yet powerful. If you utilize the above tips for essay writing, then you will not only improve your writing style, but also boost your grades.
