How Green Technology is Powering the Future of Transportation

Our Earth is a complex, living organism that functions similar to a human body. It regulates growth, nurtures itself with energy provided by the Sun, and has its own response system when it feels as if something is out of balance. The natural resources we claim as our own are actually this living body’s to use in order to keep our planet in optimal conditions to sustain human life.

As we continue growing in this era of technology, our society has to find a solution for our diminishing natural resources.

For me, this problem means more than finding alternative solutions for energy. It's up to all of us to do our part. I have learned a lot by examining the plans laid out by companies that care.

Businesses that make it a point to inform the public of the information they have gathered on sustainability has lead me to become more critical of my own practices. They have shown me how big of an impact a small individual like myself can make. I plan to follow their lead and do my part in continuing the conversation.

Sustainability At Its Core

Sustainability is defined as the “avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.” Our natural resources are created in nature’s laboratory and require time to manifest. This time can be anywhere from a few months to several millennia.

Once many of these resources are gone, they will be gone for good, leaving future generations to deal with the problem we are creating today.

It should be of the highest importance to stop using natural resources and praise companies that are doing so in order to keep our planet in a state of equilibrium.

Spotlighting Those That Deserve It

Although it will take us time to implement sustainable choices in industries that use fossil fuels, it may not be that far away. If you aren’t up on the latest news, The Shell Oil Company announced last year that it would take immediate steps to “shift people away from oil and towards hydrogen and electric transportation in order to keep global warming under the 2-degree limit that most scientists think is the tipping point for climate change.”

This is all per the Paris Climate Agreement and it’s quite the statement to make. Shell Oil is telling its customers that it is working on a solution to replace its own product. They have even bought “an electric car charging company, a major natural gas company, and it’s working on carbon capture and storage technology through its Quest and Gorgon projects.”

Beyond that, other companies are adding the conversation when it comes to auto. DAR PRO Solutions recycles used cooking oil into biofuel that is then used in traditional gas-burning engines.

This inspires me on a deep level because a company is willing to stick its neck out and say that its own product is a primary cause of global warming symptoms and that it is more than willing to save planet Earth at the cost of its own ego. I have recently tried to challenge my own ego with the same honesty by rethinking my car purchase and considering swapping to an electric vehicle sooner, rather than later.

Bigger than the choices of a single company, Germany has made the largest steps forward on this sustainability journey. Back in September 2018, they already had 50 hydrogen gas stations for cars that were compatible. It’s clear that gas is out and electric is in.

With Germany and Shell Oil taking the lead and making their mark on sustainable history with cars that drive the conversation, it really is no excuse for us to engage in activities that hinder our planet. The future of our planet is green, and electric, and the sooner we can complement that with our everyday processes the better.
