Aquaman: Top 5 Stunning Facts

The film “Aquaman,” released in 2018, was praised by the audience and critics alike, a fact that surprised many people given the negative reputation that the DC Extended Universe had.

After “Batman v Superman,” “Suicide Squad,” and “Justice League,” the fans of DC Comics were left disappointed. Thankfully, “Wonder Woman” brought back hope, so “Aquaman” became one of the most anticipated films for superhero enthusiasts.

DETAILS ON “AQUAMAN”

Apart from the director James Wan, who worked on films like “Annabelle” and “Insidious,” the cast was one of the highest points of the film:

Jason Momoa took the role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman. Nicole Kidman reprised Atlanna, Arthur’s mother. Amber Heard played Mera, Arthur’s love interest and right hand. Finally, Patrick Wilson portrayed King Orm, one of the enemies in the movie.

Fortunately, the movie did not disappoint, and it became one of the best films of the DC Extended Universe.

Although Jason was already a celebrity, his career skyrocketed with his portrayal of Arthur Curry. In fact, AmoMama reported that the actor and his biceps became the theme of a coloring book titled “Crush and Color: Jason Momoa: A Coloring Book of Fantasies With an Epic Dreamboat.”

Given the popularity of the film, Jason is set to come back as Arthur Curry for “Aquaman 2,” which is expected to be released in 2022. At the moment, details of the upcoming movie are scarce, to say the least.

Since waiting two more years for the sequel will be difficult, we thought that these 5 stunning facts about “Aquaman” would be worth learning!

  1. FANS INITIALLY DIDN’T LIKE JASON MOMOA

Initially, comic book enthusiasts considered that casting Jason as Aquaman was not the best choice. The main objection was that he didn’t look like the character from the comics.

The first time that the actor portrayed Arthur Curry was in “Justice League.” Shortly before that film was released, Jason himself confessed that some fans might not like how his character would be displayed. He said:

“Aquaman, he's not even really Aquaman yet. He's not the King of the Seven Seas. We don't really get there until my solo movie, at the end. Really, it's a huge growth for me. It's a gigantic arc for Arthur Curry. It may be tough for a lot of fans to watch what they're gonna see, how I portray him. But you gotta wait until we get to the solo movie to really know. Because he's not King yet” [sic].

Thankfully, Jason’s performance surpassed every expectation and won the hearts of comic book fans.

  1. AQUAMAN’S EVIL TWIN, ORM

We made clear that, before watching Jason doing his thing, fans would have preferred to have a person with blond hair and white skin playing Aquaman. Well, that’s precisely how Patrick Wilson looked like in the movie.

Patrick, who worked with James Wan in “The Conjuring” franchise, played Arthur Curry’s evil twin Orm. The actor even admitted that he thought his appearance in the film felt like a tongue-in-cheek joke from James.

  1. THE ANNABELLE DOLL APPEARED IN THE FILM

As mentioned before, the director of the film was James Wan, famous for his horror movies. One of them was “Annabelle,” a film portraying a haunted doll that was kept at The Warrens’ Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.

The doll made a short cameo in “Aquaman,” specifically when Mera and Arthur are retrieving her amphibious vehicle from a shipping container.

  1. THEY PAID HOMAGE TO “MAN OF STEEL”

Reaching the end of the film, Arthur is seen wearing his armor and holding his trident above his head while “flying” through the water. The scene was very similar to the one where Henry Cavill’s Superman broke the sound barrier on “Man of Steel,” released in 2013.

Given the fact that James Wan and Zack Snyder, the director of the Superman movie, worked very closely, it was only natural to share a tribute to the first installment of the DC Extended Universe.

  1. TOPO THE OCTOPUS MADE A CAMEO

In the middle of an action-packed fight between Arthur and Orm, an octopus is seen playing the drums. It was none other than Topo, Aquaman’s sidekick from the 50s and 60s comic books capable of playing musical instruments.

The director pointed out that he was not sure about including Topo in the film. However, he revealed that if “Mad Max: Fury Road” could show a man playing a flaming guitar, he could include the octopus with the drums.
