Even though protests are ongoing at an intense level nearly across the country related to the newly announced Agneepath Yojana by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, there is something important to discuss on the positive front to help the youths understand the true benefits. The so-called Agniveers, those who get hired for a contract period of four years in the Indian army, need to look beyond the salary and tenure. It is better if they consider what opportunity awaits after their retirement. Let us have a detailed analysis here.


Rupees 12 Lakh on Retirement


Apart from the monthly salary between Rs 30,000 and Rs 45,000, giant financial support awaits to get embraced after four years of service in the Indian army. Each Agniveer to get about Rs 12 lakh in one lap. This means there are savings of three lakh a year while serving the army. The figure is decently impressive for a youth who is taking the first step to a career and setting goals in life.


Induction into Army


Not all Agniveers, but about 25 percent of them to get inducted into the army permanently. The central government has assured in the Agneepath Yojana scheme. There is a one-fourth chance of getting absorbed in the Indian army and simultaneously becoming rich by additional Rs 12 lakh after the end of the contract period of four years.


Job in Home and Defence Ministries


If an Agniveer fails to get selected for a job in the army after retirement, there is still a good hope to serve a department in the central government. The Home and Defence ministries state to reserve 10 percent of posts for them. The monetary benefit of Rs 12 lakh on retirement remains intact.


Job in Indian Coast Guard


Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly. For those who dream of serving the government in one way or the other, there is still a path that could be paved. The Indian Coast Guard has assured reserving posts for the Agniveers.


Job in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs)


Union Home Minister Amit Shah lately announced that Agniveers may find job opportunities in the CAPFs and Assam Rifles. Additionally, the Agniveers to get facilitated with five years extension in the age limit to join the CAPFS and Assam Rifles.


Job in Merchant Navy


An announcement from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reveal the Agniveers to get the smooth transition in six branches of the Merchant Navy such as Electrical Ratings, Class IV-NCV CoC holder, Electro-Technical Officers, Cook and Deck Sailer.


Job in Ministry of Civil Aviation


Technically capable retired Agniveers can be absorbed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation for various uses.


Higher Education Opportunity


The National Institute of Open Schooling is to support the Agniveers in continuing their school education and step into higher education. With the help of special courses, the young people can avail class 10th and class 12th pass certificates.


Simultaneously, the Union Ministry of Education states to offer a special technical educational course to the undergraduate retired Agniveers. The course is learned to be of three years duration.

 

Employment Under Housing and Petroleum Ministries


The housing and petroleum ministries have come forward to rope in the Agniveers in state-owned enterprises.


Job in State Police


Not all the states though. A couple of BJP-ruled state governments including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam have announced to prioritize the hiring of the retired Agniveers in various government sectors such as state police.


Job in Corporate Houses


A couple of corporate houses including the Mahindra group and RPG group have announced to hire trained and deserving Agniveers in their companies. It is believed more industrialists may extend their support to the retired Agniveers soon.


Agneepath Yojana Explained


The Indian army announces to recruit up to 50,000 soldiers annually under the newly introduced Agneepath Yojana. Three-fourths of the Agniveers would retire after four years while the remaining would continue for a period of another fifteen years under the permanent commission system. However, the four years of service would not be taken into consideration in the benefits of fifteen years of service.


The Agneepath Yojana may help in reducing the defense pension bill considerably.


Following selection, the Agniveers would undergo training for six months and thereafter serve the army for three and a half years.


The Agniveers would get a life insurance coverage of Rs 48 lakh for the service period of four years.


The current average age of Indian forces is 32 years. With the new scheme, it would come down to 26 gradually and future-ready soldiers would be created in the country. Moreover, a higher-skilled workforce would help India in the productivity gain. This would further boost the economy and increase GDP growth. More entrepreneurs would be created in India.
