Wood Pressed Coconut Oil

Wood pressed coconut oil is one of the most sought after kinds of coconut oil available today. It has a very high content of saturated fats and is usually not consumed on a daily basis. People consume it on special occasions or as a healthy alternative to olive oil or other vegetable oils. There are various disadvantages and benefits that you can get from wood-pressed coconut oil. Let's take a look at some of them.

Wood pressed coconut oil is very expensive than cold-pressed oil. It takes a fair amount of manual labour, is much more costly than refined coconut oil, takes a long time to process and makes a large amount of waste. However it is the healthiest method of extraction out of coconut meat. Sesame, groundnut, and palm oil are generally used cold pressed oils. It is also a source of great value for health in that it provides medium chain fatty acids which have a high melting point and excellent digestion rate.

The main reason behind this being the fact that it contains good and exceptional amounts of medium-chain fatty acids (MCT) and bad cholesterol. These are very important nutrients that should be present in the diet. They play a very important role in the body by reducing the risk of heart diseases and improving heart function. Due to this reason, this kind of wood pressed coconut oil is considered as a healthy fat which helps to control bad cholesterol levels. This is very helpful especially when combined with exercise and regular consumption of food rich in vegetables and fruits.

The production of wood pressed oil is usually done in two ways. One is cold pressed method where as the other one known as hot method is wet method. In this case, the wood is sawn and mixed with lye or soda water. The end product is then processed through different methods depending on the type of wood and its usage. The process of cold pressing involves the removal of the outer skin or the capillaries on the coconut meat which helps in the extraction of the MCT and bad cholesterol from the oil.

The steam distillation method is commonly used for the production of the wood pressed coconut oil, which is often preferred for its pure flavor and aroma. In this method, the wood is covered in hot rocks to expose its natural oil and vapor. This is then slowly evaporated, leaving the result as a clear liquid.

The process of hot method is also very simple and effective but costly in comparison with the dry method. This is due to the fact that more natural fats are needed in this case. In this case, lauric acid is the main factor used. Another important factor for this kind of wood pressed coconut oil is that it does not require any kind of preservation or heating and therefore can easily be stored. The shelf life of this oil is around forty years and hence is an ideal choice for many people.
